Madrid, the capital of Spain since 1562, is synonymous with art galleries, bullfights, bar culture and alfresco dining. It is definitely a city with a lively spirit and with world famous night life, so be prepared to have loads of fun. The city is compact and easy to navigate on foot, most of the sights of interest are found in the downtown area between the Royal Palace and Parque de Retiro.
