Day 4: Santiago

Departure from the hotel. The trip is made along Route 68 towards the tunnel Lo Prado (3,000 mts. long), the fertile valley of Curacaví with its fruit trees and vines, from where a new ascent takes placeto cross another cord of the mountain range of the coast for entering the tunnel Zapata (1,300 mt. long), from where the valley of Casablanca begins, devoted to the growing of grapes. The trip continues passing by the Sanctuary of Lo Vásquez with its great church that receives a mass peregrination on December 8 th, the artificial Peñuelas Lake until getting to the fork of the way towards Valparaiso, main port of Chile, declared a World Heritage by UNESCO. The city-port, in amphitheatre form, is located in an ample bay surrounded by high hills where the streets, side streets, alleys and scales climb to the summit. From the Prat wharf, the harbour activity of great boats and loading cranes can be observed. 21 de Mayo Stroll, a viewpoint located on an esplanade on the edge of the cliffs from where it is possible to admire the immensity of the Pacific Ocean and the unusual architecture and layout of the streets. Sotomayor Square, civic center of the city during the first third of XX century, the ex- Intendance (1910), today Headquarters of the Chilean Navy, Monument to the Heroes of Iquique (1886), in which crypts the rests of heroes like Prat, Condell and Serrano lie. Prat Street framed by high buildings of financial institutions, Esmeralda street where the building of the El Mercurio newspaper stands out (1900), Aníbal Pinto Square, declared Typical Zone by the National Monument Council, Condell street with its old buildings of the 1930s, the National Congress that holds the Senate and the House of Representatives. Viewpoint of the Baron Hill, recognized by its terrace, lights and forged iron grates from where a complete view of Valparaiso, its hills, the city, port and the bay can be obtained.
Here starts the trip towards Viña del Mar, also known as the “garden city ", with its singular architecture. Abarca Creek, beach located in a well-covered bay is the closest to the city, towards the clock of flowers, acquired in 1962 during the World Soccer championship that took place in Chile. Presidential Palace (1929) place of rest of the presidents of Chile, Castillo Wulff, one of the first exponents of the so frequent form of castle in Viña del Mar. In the residential districts there are beautiful houses surrounded by gardens built during the first decades of the XX century and inspired by the most varied architectonic styles with small towers and viewpoints. The edge of the sea in the Peru Avenue and San Martín Avenue is framed by a series of high buildings with their characteristic balconies opened to the ocean. Vergara wharf (1910), visited by fishermen and people in general at the time of the sunset. Municipal casino with its multiplicity of game rooms, shows and restaurants. Jose Francisco Vergara Square, in the center of Viña del Mar, Valparaiso street where the main commerce of the city is developed, ample pedestrian stroll framed by buildings that form a continuous wall of display cabinets and light signs, outdoor cafes and the Samoiedo confectionery, the most traditional meeting place of the city. Alvarez Street, that goes by the side of the railroad showing the houses of the first decade of the XX century heading to Quinta Vergara, the most beautiful park of the coast and of Chile with ample avenues of stroll and a beautiful residence that today holds the Municipal Museum of Fine Arts, in addition to an amphitheatre with a monumental stage where the Festival Internacional de la Canción (International Festival of Song) is performed every year in the month of February. Libertad Avenue, the most beautiful of the city full of aged oriental plane tree which big branches form a true vault. Corporation Fonck Museum, with its archaeological collection of the North and center of the country, of the mapuche culture and of the Rapa-nui culture of the Easter Island. The stroll continues by the coastal Borgoño Av. towards the north bordering the rocks and cliffs towards Reñaca, a beach of elegant buildings, varied restaurants, discos and cafes, meeting point for thousands of visitors during the summer season. The trip goes on towards the Higuerilla Creek, second gastronomic nucleus of the coastal road. Amarilla Beach, center of the resort of Concón, with its beautiful and elegant summer houses.
Day 5: Santiago

Tour around the colonial area of the city, Ejercito Av., Blanco Av., O'Higgins Park, Santiago Racetrack, Republica St., Bernardo O’Higgins Av., the La Moneda Presidential Palace (1786), Municipality of Santiago, old Palace of the Courts of Justice (1907), ex- National Congress (1858), Main Square (1870), Cathedral (1748), Central Post Office (1882), Mapocho Station Cultural Center (1905), Central Market (1868), Mapocho River, Parque Forestall, Palace Museum of Fine Arts, Santa Lucia hill, place of the foundation of Santiago on February 12 th, 1541, National Library (1917), Municipal Theatre (1853), Baquedano Square with the Grave of the Unknown Soldier, Bohemian district of Bella vista, famous for its restaurants, San Cristóbal hill ( 880 m.s.n.m), Costanera Av., Providencia St., Suecia Av., El Bosque Av., Isidora Goyenechea Av. and Borderio, excellent gastronomic centers, Vitacura Av., Apoquindo Av. and the Military school.
